Assistant/Associate Specialist – Biology, Microbiology - Innovative Genomics Institute, Cho Lab


The Innovative Genomics Institute at The University of California Berkeley invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Specialist position providing management and technical support of the IGI Plant Genomics Research Facility. The successful candidate will be appointed at the assistant or associate rank commensurate with prior experience and accomplishment.


Under the general direction and in consultation with the Supervisor, the employee will be expected to contribute carrying out the varied facets of the research endeavor. The employee will be involved with inter-laboratory collaboration between different labs within the Institute. The employee will also produce materials for use in experiments, such as the introduction of DNA and RNPs into plants and regeneration of plants via plant tissue culture.


Minimum/Basic Qualifications required at the time of application:
• The candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent international degree in the field of Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Molecular Biology or Cell Biology.


Additional Qualifications required by start date:
• Experience with plant tissue culture and plant transformation techniques.


Preferred Qualifications by start date:
• Experience with alternative transformation techniques, e.g. protoplast transformation and biolistics.


Appointment: This position reports to Dr. Myeong-Je Cho and will be working at the Innovative Genomics Institute at UC Berkeley. The initial appointment is 100% for one (1) year with the expectation of extension based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding. The anticipated start date of this position will be as early as January 2019.


Salary: $49,700 to $51,800 annual at 100% time as an Assistant Specialist or $56,400 - $67,900 annual as an Associate Specialist, depending on qualifications. This position provides full benefits.
