The Faculty of Science at the University of Windsor invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of Forensic Science at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing July 1, 2019. The successful candidate will hold a primary appointment in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, with a hybrid-appointment in the Forensic Sciences Program in the Dean’s Office.  The latter hybrid-appointment will be for an initial period of five years, and may be renewed. The Faculty of Science has strong research programs in all areas of natural science, mathematics and computer science. The Forensic Science program is unique within the Faculty as it reports directly to the Dean of Science. Research faculty members are appointed to specific disciplinary areas with teaching and undergraduate/graduate supervision responsibilities in Forensic Science and the candidate’s disciplinary area. Opportunities exist for collaboration with faculty both within the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and in other units at the University. The ideal candidate must possess a doctoral degree, with expertise in any area of Chemistry or Biochemistry and with at least one year of relevant case study experience in addition to research and teaching experience. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in forensic chemistry, biochemistry, analytical chemistry or relevant related fields. Professional accreditation, experience in investigative forensic science, and/or law enforcement are desirable. The ideal candidate must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. A strong track record of, or demonstrated potential for, quality peer-reviewed publications in the proposed area of research and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching is essential.

 

The successful candidate is expected to lead a vibrant, externally funded research program in forensic science and/or to establish themselves as an expert practitioner in forensic science through their disciplinary expertise. It is expected that the incumbent will take a leading role in supporting our undergraduate program by teaching and development of a range of forensic science-related courses. Contributions to outreach and undergraduate recruitment efforts are expected.

  • a letter of application, including a statement of citizenship/immigration status;
  • a detailed and current curriculum vitae;
  • a two (2) page outline of research interests and accomplishments;
  • a draft research proposal, in Tri-Council format (up to 5 pages);
  • samples of technical or scholarly writing, including (if applicable) clear indications of your contribution to any jointly authored pieces e.g. case reports or peer reviewed publications;
  • a teaching dossier or teaching portfolio demonstrating a potential for, or evidence of, teaching effectiveness and excellence.  This should include sample course syllabi/outlines, teaching evaluations, and a statement of teaching philosophy and interests (resources and templates for completing a teaching dossier can be found at http://www.uwindsor.ca/ctl/390/teaching-and-learning-resources);
  • evidence of terminal degree; and
  • three (3) current letters of reference forwarded directly by the referees to the Dean of Science at the address or email listed below. At least one letter from a professional mentor or supervisor is highly recommended.
