Postdoctoral Research Assistant/Associate in bioinformatics/computational biology: Non-coding RNA, transposons, epigenomics and genome evolution


A position is available for a postdoctoral Research Assistant/Associate in bioinformatics/computational biology to work with Professor Eric Miska at the Gurdon Institute.

 

How the environment shapes and influences dynamic properties of nucleic acids and what this means for development, physiology, disease and inheritance is a fundamental question in biology. Professor Eric Miska leads an international team of scientists from different backgrounds to investigate the role of RNA and epigenetics in the interpretation and shaping of genomes. We are seeking an outstanding individual to lead research projects using computational and bioinformatic approaches. In addition, this post will offer you the opportunity to work on collaborative projects with experimental group members. Potential projects could involve RNA metabolism including RNA epigenetics, transposon biology, non-coding RNAs and chromatin. The group utilises C. elegans, African cichlid fish, mice and human cells as models.

 

You will become part of a driven, collaborative, enthusiastic and diverse team. You will have access to state-of-the art managed computer facilities at the Gurdon Institute and the Wellcome Sanger Institute. You should hold a PhD (or equivalent) in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics or similar, or be close to completion of such a degree. You will also have proven experience in the processing, analysis and management of next generation sequencing datasets. Suitable programming skills are essential (e.g. Bash, R, Python, Matlab, cluster programming). You will also have excellent communication (written and oral) and documentation skills. A track record in the field of non-coding RNA or transposon biology would be an advantage.

 

Limited funding: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
