DESCRIPTION

Molecular Biology and Protein Chemist
Assistant, Associate, or Full Specialist Series
Gross Lab, Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry
University of California, San Francisco

The Laboratory of Professor John Gross in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry has an open position for a molecular biologist/protein biochemist. The Gross Lab’s research is focused on reconstituting and resolving host pathogen conflicts. We employ advanced tools for this work ranging from X-ray crystallography to EM, which require complexes to be purified from endogenous sources or reconstituted from recombinant purified components. The successful candidate will work within the UCSF HARC center to express and purify target complexes using a variety of eukaryotic expression systems. Primary methods for expression of target proteins will be carried out using mammalian cell culture in suspension. The candidate will have the opportunity to work with antigen binding fragments (Fabs), which have the potential to be used in HIV immunotherapy. Accordingly, the candidate will have experience with mammalian cell culture and molecular biology in addition to basic techniques utilized modern protein chemistry.
