The Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences in the College of Agricultural Sciences at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking talented applicants for a new tenure-track Assistant Professor in Immunology position. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an extramurally funded research program and teach in the Immunology and Infectious Disease program. Requirements include expertise and experience in immunology, including but not limited to immune cell development, autoimmunity, immune responses to parasitic, bacterial, fungal, or viral infections, immunotoxicology, cancer immunology, or immune networks in inflammation and resolution. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in immunology, biochemistry, cancer biology, life sciences, microbiology, or related disciplines, three years of relevant post-doctoral research experience and an outstanding record of accomplishment in immunological research. The position will entail a 75% research / 25% teaching assignment. This position features a competitive start-up package, outstanding research space in the newly constructed building and access to state-of-the-art instrumentation, a Gnotobiotic facility, and an ABSL-3 laboratory. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong, independent research program supported by extramural funding to provide novel discoveries and mechanistic underpinnings relevant to important animal and/or human health concerns. Other responsibilities include: active participation in a vibrant community of immunology, infectious disease, and cancer biology researchers; training graduate students and post-doctoral fellows; teaching an undergraduate course in mucosal immunology; and contributing to a graduate level course in molecular immunology. The successful candidate will become an effective member of the Center for Molecular Immunology and Infectious Disease within the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences ( and the Penn State Cancer Institute ( Consistent with Penn State policies, the faculty member is expected to: be a good citizen in the Department and serve on Departmental, College and University committees as appropriate, comply with all relevant policies, maintain high ethical standards, and participate in professional service and/or outreach as part of the academic appointment.
