Bioinformatician The University of Manchester, Biology, Medicine & Health United Kingdom

We seek a highly motivated Bioinformatician to work within the Cardiovascular Genetics group led by Professor Bernard Keavney, BHF Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine.  The post is funded for five years from Spring 2019 in the first instance with the possibility of renewal.  The group has an internationally leading profile in cardiovascular genetics, in particular the genetics of Congenital Heart Disease (CHD).  We have recently identified several genes and regions predisposing to CHD through GWAS and genome-wide CNV characterisation.

You will contribute to the analysis of large-scale discovery genetics experiments involving whole-exome and whole-genome sequencing, and microarray analyses in cardiovascular diseases. Studies in the UK Biobank and 100,000 Genomes resources are envisaged to be a major part of your work. Additionally, the group’s functional genomics programme generates large and complex ‘omics datasets including RNA-seq, ChIP-Seq, and chromatin conformation capture.

You will analyse and integrate these data with the aim of identifying causative loci, mechanisms and potential interventions in congenital heart disease and other cardiovascular diseases.  You will have the opportunity to develop novel tools and approaches that bear on these problems, implement and deploy new and existing bioinformatics applications, and contribute to grant applications and publications.

As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status.  All appointments will be made on merit.
