# Job description

We are seeking a motivated Lecturer who will provide leadership in promoting teaching excellence and engage in high quality teaching to students on predominantly undergraduate programmes and to undertake high quality educational research.  

 

The main focus of the post holder initially will be to support the development and delivery undergraduate common year one teaching with a particular focus on pharmacology and physiology. The post holder will work closely with the head of CYO as well as programme leads and the Dean of Bioscience Education to enhance the Programme content, introduce assessment innovations and facilitate their delivery.

The role requires a skilled educator with experience of undergraduate education in the field of Biosciences, the ability to teach 1st year physiology and pharmacology is desirable, with the potential to grow a research career within education (through an Academic Education Pathway lecturer position). 

 

This post will be offered on an indefinite contract  

This is a full-time  post# Key responsibilities

- Delivery of excellence in high-quality education, helping to shape the future of Bioscience education 
-  Initial duties will include contributing to the 1st year UG CYO modules. Module leadership roles will depend on post holder’s expertise but we are especially seeking knowledge of 1st year level pharmacology and/or physiology. 
- Contribution to 2nd, 3rd year and masters teaching will depend on expertise 
-  Module design, modification and delivery.  This includes preparatory work, teaching, set-up and marking of formative and summative assessments, and reassessments, including coursework, posters, scripts and research projects; 
- Taking responsibility for module evaluation.  This includes internal and external promotions/marketing and student feedback  
- Preparation of rich student feedback from formative and summative assessments to support learning and reflection; 
- Delivery of online provision including (i) assessments, demonstrating knowledge of software for this purpose  (ii) development of on-line resources that will enhance the student experience (e.g. KEATS); 
- Acting as personal tutor for students, providing pastoral care, helping students to meet the learning objectives, and resolving enquiries; 
- Undertake a proportionate level of administration associated with teaching in higher education, including ensuring that quality assurance processes and timescales for delivery are met. 
- Undertaking high quality pedagogical research

# Skills, knowledge, and experience  

- Experience of undergraduate teaching and learning; 
- Expertise in blended learning and online teaching delivery, including module delivery and delivery on KEATS/Moodle or similar VLE. 

 

**Essential criteria **

1.       First Degree or Masters in relevant subject; 

2.       PhD in Biomedical Science or a related subject; 

3.       Experience of delivering quality teaching, including evidence of developing new innovative teaching approaches; 

4.       Highly effective oral and written communication skills, to convey conceptual and complex ideas and information, alongside good organisational and administrative skills; 

5.       Evidence of academic leadership.  Proactive in creating and developing interactions and collaborations with colleagues with an ability to lead and function within a team and to plan and prioritise workload. 

 

**Desirable criteria **

1.       Experience of delivering pharmacology/physiology lectures 

2.       Contributions to national/international conferences; 

3.       Supervision of undergraduate projects  

4.       Teaching qualifications. 

5.       Evidence of education based research
