Primary Function of Organizational Unit              

The Department of Biological Sciences is dedicated to basic research and teaching in a broad range of aspects of the biological sciences.

The Department has strong undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral programs and substantial extramural support to develop and maintain integrative research programs. In addition, the Department enhances its mission to interdisciplinary research and training programs with other units in the life sciences across colleges.

Essential Job Duties      

This non-tenure track faculty position teaches courses in the Undergraduate Microbiology Program in the Department of Biological Sciences and provides instructional support for the undergraduate microbiology teaching laboratories. The Lecturer is the teacher of record and is responsible for all content delivery, assessments, and grading. The candidate is required to teach one seated (face-to-face) section of General Microbiology (MB 351) as well as one online distance education section of Medical Microbiology (MB 411).

In addition to classroom responsibilities, the Lecturer is expected to be available to enrolled students (~200) during virtual and face-to-face office hours.

Minimum Education/Experience            

PhD in microbiology or a related discipline, experience in college-level teaching (classroom and online), and a background in microbial ecology

 

Departmental Required Skills   

Must have experience teaching undergraduate level Microbiology or related courses

 

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education             

Preferred, but not required:

Two years of experience teaching undergraduate level Microbiology or related courses
