Postdoc in Coral Biology and Ecophysiology

Department of Biology
Faculty of Science
University of Copenhagen

A 3-year postdoc position in coral biology and ecophysiology is available in the Microenvironmental Ecology and Symbiosis Laboratory at the Marin Biology Section of the Department of Biology. The position is financed by a recent investigator grant in aquatic symbiosis from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation that explores microenvironments, symbiosis and other microbial interactions in the coral holobiont.

We are looking for candidates experienced in ecophysiological or biophysical studies of corals or other aquatic symbioses. You will join an interdisciplinary team of researchers with a background in biology, chemistry and material science. Experimental work will encompass lab work on corals in house and with collaborators in Monaco and Australia, as well as fieldwork on coral reefs. The project employs various microenvironmental analysis tools (e.g. microsensors, variable chlorophyll fluorometry, hyperspectral and chemical imaging, light-sheet microscopy) to explore the structure and function of the coral tissue, gastric cavity and coral skeleton compartments.

The postdoc’s duties include research on the biology and ecophysiology of corals and their associated symbionts and microbiomes, participation in coral husbandry and fieldwork, as well as participation in supervision of students. The post may also include performance of other duties.
