Postdoc in the Protein Signaling Program
University of Copenhagen Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research

Postdoc in the Protein Signaling Program, in the Duxin group

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic researcher for a two-year position to start in January or February of 2020.

Information about the Center for Protein Research can be found at:

Information about the Duxin laboratory can be found at:

Our research

Dr. Duxin’s research aims at understanding the molecular mechanisms that ensure the accurate replication and maintenance of the genome, and how defects in these processes can become the cause of cancer and other diseases. To this end, the lab is using a cell-free extract system derived from the African frogs, Xenopus laevis. These extracts have the remarkable capacity to recapitulate many aspects of genome maintenance including DNA replication and many DNA repair processes. Using this system, the Duxin group recently described how DNA-protein crosslink repair is tightly coupled to DNA replication (Duxin et al. Cell 2014; Larsen et al. Molecular Cell 2019).

By joining the laboratory you will become part of a dynamic and multi-disciplinary research environment present at CPR that comprises state-of-the-art facilities to protein research including Mass Spectrometry, Protein Imaging, and Protein Production platforms.

Your job

The candidate will primarily focus on identifying and characterizing novel repair pathways that participate in the removal of DNA-protein crosslinks. To this end, the candidate will employ proteome and genome wide approaches combined with the power of the Xenopus system. This includes utilizing and developing many different methods of molecular biology, biochemistry and computational analysis. The candidate will have access to all the state-of-the art facilities present at CPR.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

You are required to have a Ph.D. degree in science or equivalent.
Strong knowledge in molecular biology or biochemistry is required.
Publications in internationally recognized journals is required.
Good communication skills, both oral and written.
Demonstrate in the letter a particular enthusiasm in mechanisms of genome maintenance.

Place of employment

The employment is at the NNF Center for Protein Research (CPR –, University of Copenhagen, located in central Copenhagen. The research environment at CPR is vibrant, ambitious, and international, with approx. 30 different nationalities currently represented. The Center comprises modern laboratories and state-of-the-art facilities within protein science. Seminars with high-profile international speakers and regular internal research seminars are organized at the Center. English is the working language at the Center.

Terms of employment

The employment as postdoc is a full time position for two years. Starting date is 1 January 2020 or soon thereafter.

Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Non-Danish and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the “Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at the Universities” of June 28, 2013.
