Postdoc Position In Quantitative And Conceptual Modeling Of Biological Systems

 
 
 
The Center for Models of Life at the Niels Bohr Institute has openings for one postdoc position in quantitative and conceptual modeling of biological systems. The position is funded by an ERC advanced grant under the European Union's Seventh Framework Program, Grant n. 740704 (PI, Prof. K. Sneppen).  
 
 
The position is open from September 1st 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is for two years, with potential for extension for 1 more year.  
 
 
We are looking for an exceptional candidate with strong theoretical background that will contribute to our interdisciplinary environment of physicists and biologist engaged in understanding life phenomena on a variety of scales.  
 
 
Our local research group consist of 5 PIs with background in complex systems, working on a variety of model systems within spatio-temporal aspects of phage biology, epidemics in perspective of immune response, co-evolution, gene regulation, dynamics of epigenetics, and dynamics of formation of shapes in embryonic development. Independent ideas are highly appreciated, and it is possible to formulate alternative projects within the activities in the Center for Models of Life.  
 
 
We have local laboratory facilities for microbial or single cell experiments. Exceptional candidates can combine experiments with theoretical projects. Our theoretical models are often developed in an on going collaborations with the local stem cell center, with several groups in the biology department or with the epidemeology group at a nearby University.

The postdoc’s duties will include research within Physics as well as teaching. The post may also include performance of other duties.  
 
The successful candidate is expected to engage in Center activities, positively contribute to the atmosphere in our group and supervise students at both undergraduate and graduate level.  
 
 
Required experiences:  
 
 
Applicants should have received a recent Ph.D. in Physics, Complex systems, Computational Biology or a related field by the start of the position.  
 
 
Good verbal and written communication skills.  
 
 
Excellent and well documented research experience, documented by scientific publications in internationally reviewed journals.  
 
 
Terms of employment  

The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.  
Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.  
The starting salary is currently up to DKK 426.625 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 72.952). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
