Postdoctoral Fellow-Structural Biology-1901122

Who we are

The Otago University Department of Biochemistry is a teaching and research department located in the beautiful city of Dunedin, New Zealand. Our Department is at the forefront of research and innovation in a diverse range of fields with research findings published in high-impact journals and translated into commercial applications.

The role

As a Postdoctoral Fellow in structural biology in the Mace Laboratory, you will work on a project focused on understanding the structural basis of kinase and pseudokinase signalling.

The main focus of this project is on the regulation and activity of the Apoptosis Signal-regulating kinases (ASK1–3), which are important regulators of cell death and inflammation in response to various stresses. Work will include using structural methods (X-ray crystallography, Cryo-EM), in combination with protein biochemistry and biophysics, to understand how assembly of larger complexes regulate ASK1–3 function.

Your skills and experience

• PhD in Biochemistry, Microbiology or a related discipline.
• Experience in modern structural biology practice, specifically crystallography or cryo-electron microscopy.
• Experience with eukaryotic expression systems and/or post-translational modifications would be beneficial.
• Careful and meticulous in record-keeping and experimental work.
• Excellent computer skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral contexts, and contribute to general laboratory activities.
• Published in international journal(s).
