Department: Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences – University of Helsinki, Finland About the PositionThe Mähönen Lab, led by Academy Professor Ari Pekka Mähönen, is seeking Postdoctoral Researchers and PhD Candidates in Plant Developmental Biology. The lab focuses on vascular cambium—the tissue responsible for producing secondary xylem (wood) and phloem. Research aims to uncover the molecular mechanisms and intercellular dynamics of bidirectional cell production by vascular cambium stem cells using:
Model species include Arabidopsis thaliana, as well as hybrid aspen and silver birch. Funded projects include Research Council of Finland–funded Academy Professor projects on stem cell fate and a Novo Nordisk Foundation–funded project on wood tissue patterning.
