Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Biochemical and Biophysical Analysis of Protein Transport

Department of Biochemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford

Grade 7: £32,236 - £39,609 p.a.

We are seeking to recruit a talented Postdoctoral Research Associate to probe the bacterial Tat transport mechanism through a combination of biochemical and biophysical approaches. The research programme will involve the preparation and biochemical characterisation of bacterial membrane protein complexes for analysis (with collaborators) by spin-label EPR and cryo-EM. The research may also involve limited live cell single molecular fluorescence tracking experiments or other biophysical analysis.

You should hold a PhD/DPhil, or be near completion of a PhD/DPhil, in biochemistry, biophysics, or other relevant discipline. You must have substantive expertise in protein purification, protein characterisation, and recombinant DNA techniques. Experience of working with membrane proteins or large protein complexes, or expertise with biophysical methods would all be advantageous. You will be highly organised and be able to work independently and as part of a team, as well as have good communication skills with the ability to present at meetings and to write scientific manuscripts.

This full-time fixed-term post is funded by the Wellcome Trust for up to 20 months in the first instance and will be based in the Department of Biochemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford.
