About This Opportunity

This position will be based at the National Biologics Facility (NBF), within AIBN. The NBF provides high-quality, custom discovery and manufacturing solutions for the development and production of recombinant biopharmaceuticals in mammalian cells.  The facility works with the biotechnology community spanning academic and industrial researchers to help drive their research from early discovery through to pre-clinical development, and receives funding from the Commonwealth Government’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy, via Therapeutic Innovation Australia.

As Postdoctoral Research Fellow you will focus your efforts on further developing the cell line development capabilities of the Queensland node of the NBF by researching and implementing new technologies in cell line engineering and clonal isolation for the production of biologics. This will also involve providing technical support and protein expression solutions to the Queensland node of the National Biologics Facility in the areas of mammalian cell line development and upstream bioprocessing.

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment – you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.

Our Ideal Candidate

You will hold a PhD (or have made progress towards a PhD) in a relevant area such as Bioengineering, Molecular Biology, Chemical Engineering and have experience in stable mammalian recombinant protein expression. You will have experience in; molecular biology, mammalian cell culture and heterologous gene expression, clonal cell line isolation and the biologics manufacturing industry. You will have a track record of publication of research findings in peer reviewed journals and conferences and the ability to establish effective relationships to represent and promote the research area at a university and wider community level. Experience following standard operating procedures, record keeping and preparing of reports to showcase research results is essential. Experience in high-throughput clonal isolation technologies is desirable.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, fixed term (until December 30 June 2022) position at Academic level A.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $69,342 - $92,782 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $81,131 - $108,555.
