Postdoctoral Researchers in Biochemistry and Cell Biology
University College Cork School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology

Post-Doctoral Researcher - 2 Positions, School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology

1 Year, Fixed-Term, Whole-time Posts

Position summary

Two postdoctoral positions are available in a Science Foundation Ireland-funded research programme on the regulation of cellular metabolism to promote healthy ageing. One project will investigate a highly conserved Insulin-like Growth Factor signalling pathway required for cell survival, mitochondrial turnover, metabolic adaptations and therapy resistance in cancer. The other project will investigate how the PDLIM2 protein regulates oncogenic kinase and adhesion signalling in tumourigeneis and cancer progression (see Rieger et al, Science Signal. 2020, Cox et al., Cancer Res. 2019, Stanicka et al., Oncogene 2018, and Lyons et al., J. Biol. Chem. 2017).

We are seeking highly motivated candidates with a PhD and demonstrated research achievement, who ultimately wish to pursue careers in either academia or Industry. The successful applicants will have the opportunity to work with a team of international researchers in Cork and with collaborating laboratories in the USA, Europe and Japan. The research will involve a wide range of biochemical, genetic and molecular cell biology approaches, including CRISPR-based cell and mouse models, protein structure-function analyses, and cell function and imaging technologies.

The School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology provides a supportive research and career development environment with University College Cork also offering a suite of career development initiatives through the postdoc hub and the human resources department.
