Postdoctoral Scientist in Haematopoietic Stem Cell Biology

Radcliffe Department of Medicine, MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, John Radcliffe Hospital, Headington, Oxford

Grade 7: £32,236 - £39,609 p.a.

This is a unique opportunity for a driven, highly motivated and ambitious Postdoctoral Scientist to join the research group of Professor Adam Mead at the MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine (WIMM) to use a number of state-of-the-art molecular and cellular techniques to investigate the role of platelet-biased haematopoietic stem cells in myelofibrosis, a severe form of bone marrow cancer.

The position is available fixed-term until 31 December 2021, funded by Cancer Research UK.

The Mead laboratory is focused on studying normal and malignant haematopoiesis, with a focus on single-cell approaches. This exciting project, at the forefront of its field, will employ combined single-cell targeted mutational analysis and RNA-sequencing, together with novel in vivo models of myelofibrosis, to determine the cellular and molecular basis of relapse after bone marrow transplant in this disease.

You will hold a PhD (or near to completion: thesis submitted) in the field of haematopoiesis or haematology, with experience in transcriptome analysis, FACS analysis and cell culture techniques. A strong publication record in high-impact peer-reviewed journals is necessary, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team. You will have excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to manage and independently drive, innovate and complete your own research and associated activities.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application.

The closing date for this position is 12.00 noon on Wednesday 16 January 2019.
