Graduate School of Biomedical and Health Sciences, Hiroshima University seeks applicants for
1 professor position. Now, we announce the recruitment is extended.

 

In education, we seek a person as Professor who can instruct graduate and undergraduate
students in dental engineering and related subjects, while having sufficient knowledge to train
students in the School of Dentistry (Programs of Dentistry and Oral Health Science) and the
Graduate School of Biomedical and Health Sciences to be advanced dental professionals or
researchers.

 


Since the Graduate School was reorganized in April 2019, we are conducting oral science
education in collaboration with the field of health science.

 


Our School of Dentistry launched an International Dental Course in 2011 and is implementing
student education to improve their global competency. In the school Professors are required to
conduct lectures in accordance with “Dual Linguistic Education system” using both English and
Japanese.

 


In research, we seek a person as Professor who can direct studies in the field of dental
engineering and related areas. It is expected that this person shall be able to conduct research
projects in cooperation with other research facilities and hospitals within and outside Hiroshima
University.

 


In clinical, we seek a person as Professor who can lead medical care and clinical education at
oral health department etc in Hiroshima University hospital.

 


We seek a person in the wide range of abovementioned fields, having enthusiasm for
educational and research activities and can achieve excellent research results. The person shall
understand the principles and visions of our schools, hospital and university and have belief in and
passion for our school and university administration.

(Tooth Morphology, Dental Prosthodontics, Conservative Dentistry, Oral
Surgery, Dental Materials)


5. Teaching Responsibilities
・Undergraduate level (general education courses): Introductory Seminar for First-Year
Students, etc.
・Undergraduate level (discipline specific courses): Oral and Dental Morphology, Practice of
Teeth Curving, Functional Restoration of Head and Neck, Practice on Functional Restoration
of Head and Neck, Introduction to Dental Science , Relevant Regulations, Clinical Practice on
Oral Health Engineering, Graduation Research, etc.
・Graduate level (master’s programs): Advanced Lecture on Oral Health Sciences, Research on
Anatomy and Functional Restoration, Seminar on Anatomy and Functional Restoration, etc.
・Graduate level (doctoral programs): Advanced Seminar on Anatomy and Functional
Restoration, Advanced Research on Anatomy and Functional Restoration, etc.
* In addition to the courses listed above, he or she may be asked to teach other general
education courses and/or discipline specific courses in other departments and graduate
schools.

 


6. Application Requirements
Applicants must satisfy all of the following qualifications.
(1) Holding a doctoral degree
(2) Being able to give lectures and academic supervision to students in undergraduate and
postgraduate courses
(3) Have a Japanese dental practice license and have abundant clinical experience
* At Hiroshima University Hospital, you can be in charge of medical treatment, oral care
and clinical education of students
(4) Being able to give lectures and academic supervision in English and Japanese
(5) Being able to give practice instruction of teeth curving

Write summaries of the 10 major publications in either Japanese (approximately 200-400
characters for each publication) or English (approximately 100-200 words for each
publication).

Aspiration (Free format)
Write about the following items in either Japanese (3,500 characters or less in total) or
English (approximately 1,750 words in total).
1) Your overview of education and research merits in the past
2) Plans and aspirations for the future education and research practice
3) Your ideas or opinions for the future university reform

10. Selection Procedures
(1) The screening will be based on application documents.
(2) Applicants passing the screening may be invited for a hearing as needed. The hearing will
accompany a trial lecture in English and Japanese for the Dual Linguistic Education
requirement in specialized subjects of School of Dentistry. When we have a hearing, we will
inform applicants of the details individually.
(3) Hiroshima University promotes the gender-equality. In accordance with the spirit of the Basic

male applicant when their achievements (including research achievements, academic
achievements, societal contributions, etc.) and characters are considered as equivalent.

 


11. Employment status
(1) If you are agreeable to the application of the Discretionary Labor System for Professional
Work, you are deemed to work for 7 hours and 45 minutes a day and 38 hours and 45
minutes a week. If not, working hours are from 8:30 to 17:00 (from Monday to Friday) and
break time is from 12:00 to 12:45.
(2) Workdays are from Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) in principle.
(3) Holidays are Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays in principle.

 


12. Salary, etc.
(1) The monthly salary system will be applied to successful applicants.
(Regulations Concerning Salaries of Hiroshima University Faculty Members Employed will be
applied.)
(2) Successful candidates may be reimbursed for travel expenses incurred for the trip from their
home or former place of work to the new place of work to assume their post in accordance with

We conduct performance evaluations for all faculty members after their employment. The
scored result will be reflected in their treatment.

(1) Probationary employment period: six (6) months
(Hiroshima University Work Regulations for Employees will be applied.)

"Academy" are required to choose one of the units because the unit system is adopted at
Hiroshima University.
