Duties and Responsibilities

We are seeking to recruit a research technician to join the Zanetti lab at the Institute of Structural and Molecular Biology at UCL/Birkbeck. Our lab uses biochemical approaches and structural techniques, in particular cryo-EM, to study coat proteins and how they regulate membrane trafficking in eukaryotic cells. The purpose of this job is to provide technical support to assist research in the lab.

Duties and responsibilities of the post holder include but are not limited to: set up and run experiments in consultation with the Principal Investigator / Supervisor. The main activities will include cloning, protein expression and purification, and assistance with electron microscopy; to accurately record, analyse and write up the results of experiments; to participate to laboratory group meetings, and prepare and present findings of research activity and new techniques to colleagues for review and development purposes.

The post is funded until  30/04/2020 in the first instance with a possibility to extend.
Key Requirements
The successful candidate must have a degree in relevant subject area (biochemistry, molecular biology, or similar), have knowledge of molecular biology and biochemical techniques, be experienced in molecular biology and biochemistry, in particular protein expression and purification.

Knowledge in the field of coat proteins and membrane trafficking, and experience with insect cells and the baculovirus expression system are among desirable criteria.
