Research assistant in small animal imaging

The Research Unit of Clinical Physiology and Nuclear Medicine at the Department of Clinical Research, University of Southern Denmark (SDU) and at the Department of Nuclear Medicine, Odense University Hospital (OUH) invites applications for a position as technical research assistant in the field of small animal imaging. The full-time position is vacant from November 1, 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter, for a duration of 3 years with possibility of extension.

The Department of Nuclear Medicine performs routine diagnostic examinations by means of innovative imaging modalities, i.e., SPECT/CT, PET/CT, and PET/MRI, and carries out cutting-edge research within the area of molecular imaging and radioisotope-based therapies together with leading basic research groups at the Faculties of Health Sciences and Natural Sciences, SDU. The unit acts as a core-facility and intends to develop and offer pre-clinical imaging services, presently including small animal PET/SPECT/CT, in the future hopefully also small animal PET/MRI, to a broader community of internal and external researchers.

The candidate will be responsible for the technical function and support of the imaging equipment and have to take part in the daily operative management of the preclinical unit, comprising participation in imaging-on-demand services, advisory functions for users, setting up and performing advanced quantitative image analyses, and data reporting to users.

The candidate will be expected to be involved in ongoing research and will have the possibility to establish own research in small animal molecular imaging, which may allow for expanding the unit’s service to other researchers and research groups. The successful candidate will work as a central person in our small preclinical team and is expected to take an active and forthcoming role in the daily work among different research groups.

Qualified candidates must hold a basic education in medical physics or biomedical engineering or a related field and will be expected to have an interest in and experience with both hardware and software related issues. Applicants with experience in the following areas will be preferred:

  • Nuclear medicine

  • Molecular imaging in mice or rats

  • Technical skills

  • Medical image data processing

  • Pharmacokinetic modelling

  • Laboratory (imaging) equipment

  • Documented organizational/communication skills

Further information can be obtained from the Head of the Department of Clinical Research, professor Kirsten Ohm Kyvik e-mail or from the Head of the Research Unit of Clinical Physiology and Medicine, professor Poul Flemming Høilund-Carlsen, email:

The application must contain:

• A cover letter
• A CV including lists of relevant personal data and formal qualifications
• Degree certificates (inclusive of a master's degree diploma)

Only applications written in English will be accepted for evaluation at the university.

Applications may be shortlisted.
