The Department of Neuroscience, College of Medicine, University of Florida, invites applications for a faculty position at the research assistant professor level. Applicants should demonstrate outstanding potential to build an extramurally-supported research program. Faculty hires will also participate in professional and graduate educational efforts within the department. 

Areas of specialization within neuroscience should surround animal models of neurodegenerative disorders, with a particular emphasis on synaptic physiology and protein transport. We seek those with expertise in various model organisms including mice, flies, and nematodes and in systems neuroscience and behavior, and use of modern tools for neural circuit monitoring and manipulation. Applicants integrating machine learning/artificial intelligence or similar computational approaches are particularly encouraged to apply. The positions will be located on the Gainesville campus of the University of Florida.

Qualifications

Minimum: The successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. Degree (or equivalent) in neuroscience or a related field. Excellent teaching and communication skills are essential. Applicant will have a research and publication record in the field of interest. Experience in establishing drosophila animal models of neurological disorders is required.

Preferred: Postdoctoral training in systems neuroscience, electrophysiology and vertebrate/invertebrate animal models of neurological disorders will be considered important attributes of successful candidates, as will experience and success in obtaining NIH funding at a level commensurate with experience.

Soft skills as well as clear written and verbal communication are essential. Successful applicants are expected to train students and contribute to research, education, and service missions of the department and college.
