Applications are invited for a BRACE funded Research Associate within the Department of Biology and Biochemistry. The project continues the development of a new model of brain aging based on induction of senescence in microglia.

 

The research entails the development of a specific marker for senescent microglia using RNA sequencing and subsequent screening of potential markers using cell culture lines and human tissue sections.

 

An enthusiastic, dedicated, hard working and imaginative researcher is sought and experience with primary microglial cell culture is required. You will also be involved in the development of further microglia related research for the future funding applications and the supervision of project students in the laboratory, as well as routine laboratory duties such as ordering reagents.

 

Knowledge of the neurodegeneration field would be an advantage as would a general neuroscience background.

 

You should expect to join the research group of Prof. David Brown which has international reputation in the field of aging and neurodegenerative diseases. The laboratory is well equipped and located within one of the leading biochemical research departments within the UK.

The position is available to start in June 2019 for a fixed-term of 12 months.
