Research Associate/Fellow in Bioinformatics/Computational Biology (Fixed term)

Salary:£27511 to £40322 per annum (pro rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience (minimum £30942 with relevant PhD). Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance

This 12 month, full time role will work with the team to develop novel research solutions to support the research in a project entitled “Controlling cadmium update and partitioning into cocoa beans in Theobroma cacao”. Particular priorities are in the areas of genomics, genetics/GWAS and microbiome analysis although researchers with experience in other relevant areas are encouraged to apply. The post holder is expected to show capability to both apply existing techniques, and also develop novel solutions to allow insight and interpretation of complex biological data

 The main responsibilities for this role are:

  • Analysing a range of data using a range of bioinformatics techniques and approaches
  • Writing manuscripts and involvement in the development of research output
  • Training and knowledge exchange

Applicants must meet the essential criteria which include:

  • PhD (or close to completion) in relevant subject
  • Extensive experience of a programming language R, python or Perl
  • Ability to work comfortably in a range of computer environments including Unix/Linux.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with clarity on complex information and draw relevant conclusions. 
  • Scientific writing experience, including the publication of at least one first author journal article
  • Proven ability to carry out independent bioinformatics analysis.
  • Experience in a variety of bioinformatics tools and software

 This role is available for a fixed term period of 12 months. Hours of work are full time (36.25 hours).Job share arrangements may be considered.
