Salary
£27511 to £40322 per annum, (pro rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience (minimum £30942 with relevant PhD). Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance

The Future Food Beacon (Beacon) is one of six multi-million pound research Beacons of Excellence that is being funded through the University's ambitious Research Strategy.


The Beacon is looking to recruit a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow to undertake a critical review into oil crop sustainability. The main responsibilities are:

  • Systematically review literature concerning global oil crop sustainability practices
  • Conduct meta-analysis into the contribution of the world’s major oil crops to oil production and the impacts of replacing practices widely considered as unsustainable with alternatives
  • Prepare a critical review article
  • Investigate current agricultural management practices
  • Contribute to the writing of a grant proposal on the topic of oil crop sustainability, with the content to be partially based on the outcomes of this review

Applicants must meet the essential criteria:

  • PhD (or close to completion) in a relevant field
  • Experience working with country-wide agricultural statistics databases
  • Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with clarity on complex information and draw relevant conclusions. Scientific writing experience, including the publication of at least one first author journal article 
  • Experience of highly varied agricultural practices, including those in both temperate and tropical regions.
  • Excellent verbal scientific communication skills, including experience presenting at international scientific conferences

This full time, fixed-term post is available for a period of 1 year. Job share arrangements may be considered.
