Salary
£27511 to £30942 per annum, (pro rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience (£30942 with relevant PhD).

Applications are invited for the post of Research Associate/Fellow to join an established team, led by Dr Gabriel Castrillo, whose main areas of research interest include plant-microbe interaction in the context of plant nutrition. The purpose of this role will be to have specific responsibility for a research project design to understand drought adaptation in plants, their symbionts, and free-living microbiomes. The successful candidate will be expected to plan and conduct work using approaches, methodologies and techniques appropriate to research in the plant microbiome area and will be responsible for writing up the work for publication. They will have the opportunity to use their initiative and creativity to identify areas for research, develop research methods and extend their research portfolio. 

Candidates should have a PhD (or be close to completion) or equivalent in a relevant subject area such as plant biology or bioinformatics.  Proficiency in the use of R software environment for statistical computing and graphics or similar statistical software is required and experience of analysing 16S rRNA sequences and microbial genomes is also required. Candidates should possess excellent communication skills, demonstrating an ability to communicate on all levels within a multi-disciplinary team. Experience in the use of research methodologies and techniques to work within the area, including a high level of competence in transcriptomics and metagenomics analysis, microbiology, and plant physiology is also essential.  

This is a full time, fixed term position and will be offered for a period of 2 years. Job share arrangements may be considered.
