The Biffi Laboratory at the CRUK Cambridge Institute (part of the University of Cambridge) is seeking to hire a bright, creative and motivated Research Associate (post-doctoral level), with strong skills in molecular and cell biology, tissue culture and mouse work to join a team working on studying and targeting the tumour microenvironment of pancreatic cancer.

The team combines ex vivo human and murine pancreatic tumour organoid/fibroblast co-cultures with murine in vivo models to study and target the interactions between pancreatic cancer cells and the surrounding microenvironment. Common techniques used in the laboratory are generation of orthotopic transplantation models of pancreatic cancer, flow cytometry and sorting, single-cell and bulk RNA-sequencing, multiplexed immunohistochemistry, RNA in situ hybridization, microscopy, drug and CRISPR strategies in both organoids and fibroblasts, pre-clinical studies in genetically engineered mouse models of pancreatic cancer, and analysis of human pancreatic tissues.

The prospective candidate will lead a developing project in the lab to characterize the roles of distinct fibroblast subtypes in pancreatic cancer and inflammation using new in vivo and in vitro models. It is expected that, as a post-doctoral member of the group, the successful candidate will have a significant input over the direction of its own project, and will contribute with its original and innovative ideas.

The candidates should have or be about to receive a PhD in a relevant discipline. They should have a strong background in molecular biology and cell biology, with prior knowledge of tissue culture techniques, flow cytometry, microscopy and mouse work. Prior expertise in biology and models of pancreatic cancer is highly desirable. Expertise in data analysis (e.g. analysis of bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing) is desirable. Candidates are expected to work effectively as part of a diverse and inclusive team, to be highly collaborative, good communicators and creative thinkers, able to find solutions to problems and contribute intellectually to other projects.
