The University of Nottingham is inviting applications for a Research Associate/Fellow to join the Pollen Development group based at Sutton Bonington. The researcher will work as part of a team to understand the process of reproduction in higher plants, in wheat and barley. This project is a UKRI-BBSRC LINK project, which will be carried out in collaboration with Plant Breeding companies, KWS, Limagrain, RAGT and Secobra, and AHDB.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic team working on pollen and anther development in a variety of crops. Control of fertility and successful reproduction is key to grain set and thus crop yield in cereals. This programme will provide greater understanding of pollen development in cereals towards controlling wheat fertility, but also by identifying traits for enhanced pollen production and viability, particularly under environmental stress. By investigating the mechanisms behind these traits and by generating tools for breeding and selection, effective breeding to increase crop productivity and resilience will be realised.

Candidates must have, or be close to completion of, a PhD in Biology, Plant Sciences or Molecular Genetics.

Proven experience in plant molecular biology, bioinformatics and the ability to generate manuscripts from research are essential requirements for the post.

Applicants must be computer literate in Word, PowerPoint, Excel and in the use of standard computing tools for molecular biology.

This post is available immediately and will be offered on a fixed-term contract until 30 September 2020 on a BBSRC-funded project. Hours of work are full-time, however job share arrangements may be considered.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Prof Z Wilson, tel: +44 (0)115 951 3235 or email: Further information can also be obtained from Please note that applications sent directly to this Email address will not be accepted.
