Additional info
The Institute of Genomics was formed in 2018 through a merger of the Estonian Genome Centre (EGC) and the Estonian Biocentre (EBC) bringing together world-class expertise in medical, population and evolutionary genetics and genomics. For more information, please visit

We host, develop and manage a population-based, longitudinal biobank representing about 20% of Estonia’s adult population (200,000 participants), established in 2000. The whole cohort of the biobank is fully genetically characterized by whole-genome genotyping arrays, 3,000 individuals are additionally whole-genome, and 2,500 whole-exome sequenced. The data repository is linked with national health registries and hospital databases for up-to-date phenotypic information.

We use these large comprehensive genetic and health datasets to perform a wide range of genetics and genomics analyses, including GWAS and PheWAS studies to identify genetic variants and genes associated with health and disease outcomes. Also, the return of individual genomic results (such as polygenic risk scores, high impact alleles and clinically actionable mutations) to biobank donors has started, translating our basic research to clinical practice. At the same time, the EBC maintains a sizable sample bank of over 25,000 human DNA samples from hundreds of populations from Eurasia and beyond, which is relevant in establishing the evolutionary driving forces behind human complex diseases.

We offer an excellent opportunity to be part of leading large data projects working in the forefront of data application for genome health in the field of genomics and building solutions with a real positive impact on personalised medicine, healthcare and well-being. We are a young, vibrant and highly motivated team. Our friendly, flexible, and supportive working culture make us a great place to work.

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated computer scientist with experience on large scale (genetic) data handling and analyses.
