Senior Lecturer in Host - Microbe Interactions

Applications are invited for a Senior Lectureship in Host-Microbe Interactions to expand our world-leading expertise in this research area. The post holder will join a very successful team of Rowett scientists who focus on defining the role of the gut in the link between diet and human health, offering a compelling environment given its quality infrastructure. The post holder will play an important role in expanding research activities in the host response to gut microbiome, e.g. the chemical biology and/or immunology behind the gut microbiome and host immune interaction and its importance to diseases such as inflammatory bowel diseases (e.g. Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis). The post holder will also play a leading role in sustaining and expanding our flagship UG and PGT teaching programmes and courses in nutrition.

The post holder will lead on the development, implementation and coordination of internationally competitive research activities in the field of host-microbe biology (immunology/chemical biology) to enhance our understanding of the effects of the gut microbiome on host metabolism, as well as identify and lead new opportunities in the translation and clinical application of research findings with colleagues in the Institute of Medical Sciences and the NHS.

The post holder will also participate in established UG/PGT teaching programmes and lead in the development of new courses and on-line teaching content in the area of Immunology, a key area of expertise for medical students and the MSc programme in Immunotherapy.

Candidates should have an outstanding, international competitive track record in published research focused on the host response in the area of Host-Microbiome Interactions and/or Immunology/Chemical Biology. Candidates will hold existing external grant income and have extensive experience with the management of complex international and interdisciplinary projects.  Candidates should also have demonstrable experience of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and research student supervision. 

Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 8 salary scale (£51,630 - £58,089 per annum) and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience.
