About the role:

We are currently looking for a Senior Scientific Officer to provide high-level technical support to research groups across the Institute during periods of maternity, paternity and adoption leave in order to maintain progress on key projects and research goals within the corresponding research group. During periods when this cover is not required the post holder will be based within the Institute Transgenic Production Facility (TPF) to provide support for all aspects of the service including molecular biology, cell culture and in vivo. The TPF works closely with the researchers across the Institute providing a comprehensive service in the generation of new genetically modified mouse lines using the new CRISPR technology. It is responsible for the design of the best targeting strategy and for the production of all the reagents required for the process.

About you:

You should have a degree in Biochemistry, cell biology, genetics or a related subject (or equivalent relevant experience) along with extensive experience in mouse embryo manipulation, microinjection and surgical embryo transfers. Experience in mouse molecular genetics and in cryopreservation and recovery of mouse sperm and/or embryos is also required.  In addition, you will be successful at adapting to changing situations and  environments.  Extensive experience across multiple laboratory techniques is desirable as is the ability to inspire and motivate colleagues and any students and technicians with whom interactions are necessary.
