Senior Lecturer in Biomedical Engineering, Permanent


Applications are invited for an appointment as Senior Lecturer in Biomedical Engineering at NUI Galway.

 

The new appointee will be required to make significant contributions to the teaching and research programmes in Biomedical Engineering at NUI Galway. In terms of teaching, the appointee will be expected to contribute strongly to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes, student project supervision, and administration activities of the Discipline of Biomedical Engineering and the College; the Discipline delivers teaching across a range of topics in biomedical engineering, including biomechanics, biomaterials, medical device analysis and design, tissue engineering, computational methods in biomedical engineering, and mechanobiology. Of particular importance in relation to this position will be leadership in the development and delivery of postgraduate taught programmes and modules delivered by the Discipline of Biomedical Engineering, including the development and delivery of new programmes and modules.

 

It is also expected that the appointee will develop an outstanding, world-class research programme in Biomedical Engineering, working with colleagues across the University’s academic disciplines and research institutes. Candidates with research expertise in biomedical engineering in areas such as biomechanics, medical device analysis and design, and biomaterials, would be particularly welcome. The new appointee will be expected to attract R&D funding in fundamental and applied research areas, from national and international funding sources, and to work closely with the medical technology industry.

 

The successful candidate shall possess:

• A primary degree in biomedical engineering or a closely related discipline;
• Normally, a PhD in biomedical engineering or a closely related discipline;
• Experience in third level course design, lecturing, laboratory supervision and project supervision;
• Experience in supervising postgraduate research students;
• A proven publication record, to include peer-reviewed publications in leading journals;
• A proven competitive research funding record, with substantial grant funding won from sources such as, but not limited to, the European Research Council (ERC), Science Foundation Ireland (SFI), Irish Research Council (IRC), and EU H2020;
• Experience in working with the medical device industry, and a strong commitment to future industrial engagements;
• An ability to conduct programme administration and management in a public service university environment;

• Excellent communication and teamwork skills, and an ability and commitment to develop collaborative relationships with other academic staff in the pursuit of teaching and research objectives in biomedical engineering;
• A strong commitment to working with colleagues within existing, established research centres and groups and a willingness to develop and lead new research activity and research groupings;
• Experience in postgraduate taught education, and a strong commitment to the development and delivery of recently-established and new postgraduate taught programmes and modules, including the development and delivery of new programmes and modules.

Salary:

€68,420 p.a. to €95,893 p.a.

 

(This appointment will be made on the Senior Lecturer scale in line with current Government pay policy).

(For pre 1995 public sector entrants in Ireland, the D class Salary rates will apply)
