Assistant / Associate Professor of Human Anatomy and Cell Science
University of Manitoba College of Medicine

Position Number 29008

The Max Rady College of Medicine (housed within the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences) at the University
of Manitoba is seeking applications for a full‐time tenured or tenure track position at the rank of Assistant
or Associate Professor within the Department of Human Anatomy & Cell Science (HACS). The position
will commence October 1, 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The successful candidate will possess an outstanding commitment to teaching and research excellence
in the fields of GROSS ANATOMY and NEUROANATOMY, with a significant emphasis on clinical
anatomy. Applicants must have a doctoral degree (and/or an M.D. degree) in anatomical or related
science, relevant post-doctoral experience, and possess extensive experience in teaching human gross
anatomy and neuroanatomy in a clinically oriented manner to students enrolled in medicine and/or health
professional programs. Candidates must demonstrate a willingness to contribute to anatomical
instructions in laboratory, small group, and large group settings. We are especially interested in
candidates that can integrate clinical medicine into their teaching, and are able to teach across a
host of health science programs (including medicine, dentistry, rehabilitative sciences, physician
assistants, pharmacy, and surgical or medical resident training). Demonstrated experience in
anatomy teaching, which incorporates different methodologies such as anatomical dissection, case-based
learning, problem-based learning, technology-assisted learning, online learning, and "flipped" classroom
is required. Additional experience in course administration, curriculum development, models of online
learning, 3D anatomy, and/or assisting with surgical skills workshops are an asset.

The successful candidate is expected to become a leader in the delivery of clinical dissection and
clinical procedural gross anatomy and neuroanatomy teaching to advanced trainees in the health
professions. Participation in educational programs for diverse groups of trainees within different
undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs across the Faculty of Health Sciences is essential
for this position. The department of HACS is currently expanding its postgraduate and clinical anatomy
educational streams. The successful candidate will take a lead role in the development of new gross
anatomy and neuroanatomy learning modules, and in the training and mentorship of undergraduate
medical students and medical residents completing their clinical anatomy training and research programs
and/or specialized anatomy training.

The department's main teaching lab has recently undergone a major 4.3 million dollar renovation and now
includes dedicated research space for conducting cadaveric-based biomedical and applied clinical
anatomy research. We are especially interested in candidates who possess a strong track record of
high quality scholarly research leading to high impact peer-reviewed publication in areas such as
surgical anatomy, medical imaging, functional and morphometric-based anatomy, medical
education programming, 3D anatomy, distance education programs, or an associated field. The
recruit will have (or demonstrate the potential to establish) an innovative and externally funded research
and/or educational program that is capable of engaging in broad collaborations with colleagues from the
basic sciences, clinical departments, and/ or the educational technology sector at the University and/ or
the private sector. Their program of research will strengthen HACS's capacity to conduct interdisciplinary
biomedical and applied clinical anatomy research. The candidate must have demonstrated the ability to
work in a collaborative research and/or clinical environment, and have experience in supervising (or
demonstrate the potential for supervising) graduate students at the Masters and PhD level.

The University of Manitoba is strongly committed to equity and diversity within its community and
especially welcomes applications from women, racialized persons, Indigenous peoples, persons with
disabilities, persons of all sexual orientations and genders, and others who may contribute to the further
diversification of ideas. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however Canadian citizens and
