Assistant Professor of Biostatistics
University of Pennsylvania Perelman
United States

Description

The Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Informatics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for several Assistant Professor positions in either the non-tenure clinician educator track or the tenure track.

Expertise is required in the specific area of biomedical informatics methods development and applications. Relevant areas include bioinformatics, translational bioinformatics, clinical informatics, clinical research informatics, consumer health informatics, and public health informatics.

Candidates with postdoctoral training are encouraged to apply. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree.

Teaching Responsibilities

Teaching responsibilities may include participation in biomedical informatics and computational biology PhD and MS training programs, as well as teaching informatics and data science courses in biomedical graduate programs. Candidates are expected to have a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring.

Research or Scholarship Responsibilities

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include variations based upon the faculty track.

Faculty on the Clinician Educator track typically participate in research as co-investigators.

Tenure track faculty oversee extramurally funded research projects as principal investigators.

Opportunities exist within both tracks to establish oneself as a research leader in their area of specialization.

Department and Research Environment

The University of Pennsylvania is a vibrant team-science-oriented environment with elite biomedical research collaborators. It is an ideal environment for biomedical informatics collaboration and application-driven methodological research.

The 10 primary faculty in the Division of Informatics have strengths that span the development, evaluation, and application of cutting-edge informatics methods, approaches, and software that impact the biomedical sciences and healthcare.

The Informatics Division is part of a large department, with dozens of highly collaborative faculty that specialize in biostatistics and epidemiology.

The successful candidate may be eligible for a secondary appointment in other departments and can also become a member of the Institute for Biomedical Informatics (IBI).

Established in 2015 to foster interdisciplinary collaboration, the IBI comprises 70 laboratories with a wide range of biomedical and clinical research focuses.

Diversity and Equal Opportunity

We seek candidates who embrace and reflect diversity in the broadest sense.

The University of Pennsylvania is an EOE.

Minorities/women/individuals with disabilities/protected veterans are encouraged to apply.
