Assistant Professor of Chemical Biology (Tenure Track) (0.8 - 1.0 FTE)

Faculty of Science

Maximum salary: € 4,978 gross/month

Vacancy number: 62.11.19

Application deadline: 14 April 2019

As a tenure-track Assistant Professor you will further strengthen research in the field of chemical biology in the broadest sense. Possible research areas include, but are not restricted to: medicinal chemistry, chemical synthesis to elucidate key processes in living cells, developing new technologies for single cell studies at the transcriptome, proteome or metabolome level, or the design and synthesis of molecules that open up a deeper view of the molecular mechanisms of disease.

Currently, the three main research directions are:
(1) Identification and synthesis of complex glycans involved in disease;
(2) Selective targeting strategies for proteins involved in auto-immune diseases;
(3) The creation of new artificial extracellular matrix materials to study cell-matrix interactions and stem cell differentiation.

We will encourage you to enthusiastically adopt a leading role in the development and teaching of modern and inspiring chemistry. The courses taught are part of the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes offered by the educational institute for Molecular Sciences, which tie in with the research conducted at the Institute for Molecules and Materials (IMM).

Work environment

Its mission is to perform fundamental research and train the next generation of leaders in science and entrepreneurship at the highest international standards. The IMM actively explores and promotes interaction with industry.

The IMM distinguishes itself from similar institutes by intense collaborations and interactions between chemists and physicists and/or experimentalists and theorists and a strong infrastructure including large user facilities such as the High Field Magnet Laboratory (HFML) and Free Electron Laser facility FELIX.

You will become a member of a larger research group within the IMM. Suitable groups could be the department of Biomolecular Chemistry, Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Physical Organic Chemistry or Systems Chemistry.

Radboud University is an equal opportunity employer, committed to building a culturally diverse intellectual community, and as such encourages applications from women and minorities. The university offers customised facilities to better align work and private life. Parents are entitled to partly paid parental leave and Radboud University employees enjoy flexibility in the way they structure their work.
