The big-picture goal of the Brem lab is to understand the cellular and genetic basis of phenotypic differences between long-diverged species. The current project focuses on differences between species of the Mus genus in the growth and regeneration of axons from neurons, using stem cell models. The project is a collaboration between the Brem lab at UC Berkeley and the lab of James Dutton at the Stem Cell Institute of the University of Minnesota.
