The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, Assistant or Associate Professor in the Integrated Food Animal Management Systems (IFAMS) group. We have a large and diverse research program that engages with faculty across campus in a variety of disciplines. Our educational program is broad and diverse. The IFAMS group has developed, and now deliver, a novel online master’s program for veterinarians across the globe. We also deliver core and elective courses across all four years of the professional curriculum and deliver world class educational programs for producers and veterinarians locally, nationally and internationally.  Our team of faculty and graduate students service local, national and international food producers in a multitude of ways.  

Professional opportunities: We seek a strong team player interested in utilizing their research and teaching to promote advancements in food animal production. The ability and desire to impact production livestock industries and collaborate with commercial industries’ needs is imperative. The successful candidate must be willing to help build the core professional food animal teaching program, including the development of elective courses, summer programs, and the further development of novel teaching experiences. The ideal candidate will have professional development and advancement opportunities within the Department, College and University.

Requirements: The preferred candidate will have the ability to develop a world-class discovery program that addresses the needs of livestock-based food production with a preference on the pork industry. It is an expectation that the individual selected will build research partnerships with key industry players in Illinois and across the United States. A desire and ability to teach, including building and delivering learning materials and courses that address real-time commercial industry needs, is expected. Participation in the Livestock Systems Health (LSH) program, which includes the Master of Veterinary Science, graduate certificates (Online-EVP), and short courses, is expected. Building on college and campus strategic research areas, such as infectious disease and data science, is required. The candidate must have a focus on herd based, production animal medicine with a preference for swine production systems that align with the strengths of the University and the state of Illinois. A willingness to instruct students with varied experience is mandatory. Candidates must have a DVM degree or equivalent and advanced training in research design. Preference will be given to those candidates that have obtained a PhD.

Duties: As a member of the IFAMS faculty it is expected that the successful candidate will focus your efforts on teaching, clinical service, and scholarship in production animals. Clinical commitment to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) will occupy up to 50% of your appointment; the time may be periodically adjusted by the department head and the VTH Director depending on departmental and VTH needs and will be scheduled, after consultation with you, by the head of the IFAMS Section. Your on-clinic time (divided equally between clinical teaching and clinical service) is devoted to clinical teaching and patient-related activities as a clinical service provider. Clinical work will take place in our "multidisciplinary classroom/laboratory," the VTH. In these settings, you will be expected to serve as a role model for our students, provide outstanding clinical service to the general public and referring veterinarians, engage our students in clinical activities, and work collaboratively with faculty, staff and producers. You will be expected to maintain knowledge, expertise and clinical skills that are appropriate for a specialist in your field.

This position is a 100% appointment in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine. The appointment will be full time and will be a tenured, academic position with a starting date on or about July 16, 2021.
