An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Associate Lecturers in Biology to join the team in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Adelaide.

We are seeking enthusiastic academics to assist the Level 1 Director of Teaching in Biology to coordinate large first year biology courses, organise and deliver improved contextualised workshops and practical components for cohorts from general and specialist degrees, and extend the biology offerings across the Faculty. These continuing teaching specialist positions will be located predominantly at the North Terrace campus of the University of Adelaide but the appointees may be required to teach at our other campuses (Waite and Roseworthy).

The School of Biological Sciences in the Faculty of Sciences brings together the contemporary disciplines of molecular and biomedical sciences, and ecology and evolutionary biology, to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate education, training and research that has both national relevance and global outreach. The School is located on the University of Adelaide’s North Terrace Campus, at the heart of one of the most liveable cities in the world and close to fantastic beaches, sporting facilities, excellent schools and entertainment and shopping precincts.

As a component of the School, biology courses, including environmental biology, provide core teaching across a range of Faculty of Sciences programs, as well as into other Faculties. The first-year biology courses are also delivered to the University of Adelaide College Degree Transfer Pathway students.

To be successful you will need:

  • A PhD in biological sciences.
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to teaching in biological sciences via lectures, workshops, tutorials and practicals at the undergraduate level.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake teaching-related administrative activities including assessment, marking, pastoral care and maintaining online learning platforms connected with courses.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under limited supervision to deliver excellent educational outcomes.
  • Exemplary personal qualities fully aligned with our institutional values of integrity, respect, collegiality, excellence, and discovery.
