We are looking for a new colleague to translate molecular-driven understanding of toxicological processes into risk analysis for human health and ecological processes. We are looking for an associate professor in the field of molecular and food toxicology to strengthen the Toxicology chair group in the department of Agrotechnology & Food Sciences (AFSG) at Wageningen University & Research (WUR).

In this challenging career trajectory 

You will be responsible for developing a strong and sustainable research group and initiating and implementing new research in the field of molecular and food toxicology. We seek to appoint an experienced scientist with complementary expertise and skills to our existing research focus. Therefore, you have a leading international position in our field and your current research projects should facilitate a good start of your new activities. 

The Toxicology chair group’s research objectives are aimed at molecular-driven mechanistic research focussing on molecular modes of action in food and environmental toxicology. Your research  actively contributes to topics such as mode of action based risk assessment of food related chemicals, alternatives to animal testing, development of biomarker techniques and bioassays for tracing chemical effects, and/or alternative in vitro and in silico methods for toxicological risk assessment. It is our ambition to translate a mechanistic understanding of toxicological processes related to human and environmental health into risk assessments for human health and ecological processes. 

Your research results and papers will contribute to advancing research frontiers internationally. In addition to research, you will teach a number of courses in the field of food and molecular toxicology. In collaboration with a technical assistant, you will supervise students and initiate new projects. As a staff member of the Toxicology chair group you are expected to attract funding to sustain your research, and cooperate with other relevant research groups at WUR  and other institutions. Training and coaching will be provided to support your further academic development.

WHO ARE YOU?

You:

  • Have a PhD in molecular or food toxicology or in a related field within molecular life sciences;  
  • have established an existing research group and acquired research funding in the field of toxicology, preferably molecular or food toxicology;
  • have a relevant international network which you can use for successful project acquisition;
  • are  experienced in course development and teaching at undergraduate/graduate levels and supervision of MSc and PhD thesis students;
  • possess a University Teaching Qualification or the willingness to obtain that in two year.
  • have succesfully managed complex projects;
  • have experience and proven ability in acquiring research funding.

Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive gross salary of between € 5190,- and € 6940- for a full-time working week of 38 hours in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 13 - 14).
