Job Description: The Bush lab at the Parnassus campus of UCSF is looking to appoint a Junior Specialist to conduct research related to understanding how physical contact regulates tissue fusion during development. The position will involve a project breeding, genotyping, and analyzing transgenic mouse lines as well as some general laboratory support. The ongoing projects in the lab are focused on utilizing mouse genetics to understand the signaling control of normal development, and how this goes wrong in congenital disease.


An enthusiastic, organized individual with a BA/BS or equivalent in cell/molecular biology or related sciences; one or more year of laboratory experience, including DNA, PCR; experience with mouse genetics; ability to organize data and keep detailed records; proficiency with software programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel; excellent communication skills in English; flexibility and willingness to work on multiple projects; and ability to work effectively in a team environment. Comprehensive knowledge of standard related scientific procedures. Ideal candidates will also possess experience in any of the following: molecular cloning, cryosectioning/histology, immunostaining, in-situ hybridization.


Job Responsibilities: Perform experiments and data analysis under the direction of PI. Tasks will include managing mouse colonies, setting timed pregnancies and performing dissections followed by analysis of specific transgenic mouse lines. Additional duties will include participation in basic lab support activities and actively participating in group meetings.


Education: BS/BS degree in a relevant field.


Experience: Experience working in a biology or biomedical research lab. Demonstrated experience with mouse genetics as well as standard histological techniques.

Licensure/Certification/Registration: None required.


Physical Requirements: Normal physical requirements include good visual acuity and accurate color discrimination. The position requires excellent manual dexterity and familiarity utilizing delicate instrumentation.
