17.07.2026, Wissenschaftliches Personal

The Elite Network Bavaria funded graduate college “The Proteomes that Feed the World” at the School of Life Sciences, Technical University of Munich invites applications for: Doctoral Candidate f/m/d in Plant Cell Biology

The graduate college “The Proteome that Feed the World”:
Plants are the nutritional basis of life on earth and for sustaining an increasing human population and counteracting climate change. However, little is known about the crop proteomes – the entirety of proteins that execute and control nearly every aspect of life. Therefore, TUM pursuits for the second time the visionary doctoral program with high socio-economic relevance on the topic of “The Proteomes that Feed the World” with the aims to train and develop future leaders in science who excel in research, management and communication.

The program offers professional training and project management structure in which doctoral candidates (DCs) master challenging roles, take on substantial responsibility and acquire important transferable skills.

DCs are actively engaged in interdisciplinary cohort of scientists with leading expertise in plant science, cell biology, proteomics and bioinformatics.

Added value comes from a large international network of excellent academic and industry partners as well as a vibrant local scientific community.

Capitalizing on the proteome atlas of the 100 most important crop plants for human nutrition, the project takes a cell biological perspective to investigate the molecular bases of plant-microbe interactions.

Requirements:
Candidates must hold an internationally recognized MSc degree in a life science discipline or in (bio-)informatics. Candidates must have a good command of the English language and very good interpersonal and intercultural skills. We are looking for self-motivated and broadly interested individuals with a strong sense of responsibility.

Our offer:
The position (E13 TV-L, 65%) is offered for four years available from October 1st 2026 onward. You will join an interdisciplinary team of life scientists and bioinformaticians who use the latest cell biology and proteomic approaches to better understand plant biology. The TUM is one of the best academic institutions in Germany, a well worked out international program, offers a stimulating work environment and excellent future perspectives.

Application process:
Applicants should submit a single PDF containing a motivational statement, a curriculum vitae, and the email addresses of at least two referees to julien.gronnier@tum.de.
