The Functional Agrobiodiversity group at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen is offering a

 

Doctoral researcher position (m/f/d)

 

in the DFG Research Unit FOR2432 B01 Agricultural biodiversity and associated services across rural-urban landscapes – field studies. The position will be limited for three years, starting 01.09.2019. The salary is in accordance with the German public service salary scale (TV-L E13) with 65 %, which corresponds to currently 25.87 hours per week.

 

Background and objectives

FOR2432 (http://www.uni-kassel.de/fb11agrar/de/fachgebiete-einrichtungen/opats/for2432.html) has a wide disciplinary scope, covering diverse dimensions of Socio-Ecological Systems along the rural-urban interface. Its research program addresses transition processes in agriculture, ecology, economy, and society that are linked to rapid urbanization, using Bangalore, an emerging megacity in South India, as an example. Research will be carried out in close cooperation with Indian partner institutions. Farm surveys in collaboration with project partners will be employed to achieve the following objectives:

(1) to analyse temporal dynamics of biodiversity and ecosystem services in relation to socioeconomic outcomes in vegetable and fruit cropping systems

(2) to understand relations between temporal and spatial shifts in biodiversity and associated ecosystem functions and agroecological and socioeconomic drivers

(3) to investigate multiple ecosystem services associated with of mango

 

Your Profile

• Completed university degree (Master’s Degree) in ecology, biology, agriculture or a related discipline

• Research focus on biodiversity, plant-animal interactions and ecosystem services

• Good knowledge of ecological statistics (using R) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

• Proficiency in English

• Willingness to conduct field work under challenging conditions in the Bangalore region for several months

• Collaboration with researchers from India and Germany

• Driving licence (Class B)

 

The project will be based in Göttingen, but field work will be done in the Bangalore region, India.
