Doctoral Student Positions In Bio-Chemistry Technische Universität München Germany

The TUM Department of Chemistry is seeking applications for a doctoral student position in integrative structural biology. The position is embedded within the DFG-funded Emmy Noether junior research group on virion assembly led by Dr. Anne Schütz.

Your project
Our young group integrates spectroscopic and microscopic techniques to study the organization of large biomolecular assemblies. We focus on key questions in the field of Hepatitis B virus research - one of the most common pathogens afflicting humans worldwide. Our goal is a better understanding of the assembly of the virion - a prerequisite for the rational design of drug molecules that manipulate its form and function in desired ways.

Your profile
The positions are open to candidates having a M.Sc. or equivalent degree in (bio)chemistry, physics, biology or related fields. A master thesis with the option to subsequently transfer to a doctoral student position is also possible. Your work will involve an integration of biochemistry, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and electron microscopy as well as computational approaches for structure determination. Previous experience in any of these fields is beneficial but secondary to commitment and a keen interest in learning these techniques.

Our offer
You will join a young and emerging research group and become part of a multi-disciplinary collaboration with virologists and medical scientists at TUM Medical Department (Klinikum Rechts der Isar). More information can be found on our website http://schuetzlab.bnmrz.org/. Your work place will be the Bavarian NMR center, a brand new research building with excellent facilities for biochemistry and NMR.
Doctoral candidates will be employed by TUM (65 % TV-L E13) for a total duration of three years and will be enrolled in the TUM Graduate School receiving a structured doctoral training (https://www.gs.tum.de/en/doctorate-at-tum/).
TUM aims to increase the proportion of women and thus encourages woman researchers to apply. Applicants with severe disabilities will be given priority consideration given comparable qualifications.

Your application
We look forward to receiving your application including your CV, a copy of your most recent thesis, a transcript of your grades and a motivation letter. The position is available immediately. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

Applications and questions regarding the positions should be sent to anne.schuetz@tum.de.
