Position Description

The University of Washington (UW) Tacoma invites applications for a Part-Time Lecturer of Biology in the Division of Science and Mathematics within the School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences (SIAS).  This is a part-time non-tenured position with a 9-month service period and will begin September 16, 2023. The successful candidate will teach 6-7 courses in biology in the 2023-24 academic year (80% - 86% FTE). These courses will include the introductory biology sequence along with their respective laboratory sections and may also include developing a 3-credit upper division research experience course for undergraduates. Courses will be distributed across three academic quarters with no more than three courses assigned in any single quarter. This position is renewable, contingent on funding and curricular need. The course load/FTE for reappointments may be variable across years.

The salary for this position will be $700 - $745 per month for 9-months per 6-credit laboratory course ($6300-$6600 total per lab course; base annual salary for 80% FTE = $37,800) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Qualifications

This position requires an earned master’s (or foreign equivalent) in biology or related field at the time of appointment.  The successful applicant will have been the instructor of record for at least two section(s) of biology with a laboratory component. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We regret that we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position at this time.
