DescriptionThe Division of Cancer Biology in the Department of Radiation Oncology of the Winship Cancer Institute and Emory University School of Medicine invites applications for a full-time tenure-eligible/tenured faculty position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level, in the broadly-defined area of cancer biology research with potential translational relevance and impact for the field of radiation oncology.
Research in the Division encompasses mechanistic and translational studies aimed at better understanding biological processes relevant to cancer etiology, prevention, diagnosis, detection, and treatment. These include but are not limited to DNA repair, maintenance of genome stability, cancer immunology, epigenetics, metabolism, signal transduction, particle radiobiology and therapy, cell death mechanisms, and imaging (see: https://med.emory.edu/departments/radiation-oncology/index.html). Division faculty members participate in broader University initiatives, including the Emory Vaccine Center, the Biological Discovery through Chemical Innovation (BDCI) Initiative, the Emory Artificial Intelligence (AI) Humanity Initiative, and the Georgia Clinical and Translational Science Alliance (CTSA). Opportunities abound for synergy throughout the School of Medicine, Emory College of Arts & Sciences, Georgia Institute of Technology, Morehouse School of Medicine, and Georgia State University. Faculty members have ready access to state-of-the-art instrumentation within the department and via Emory Shared Resources (https://med.emory.edu/research/core_labs/index.html)
The Department of Radiation Oncology is ranked in the top 10 in the nation in NIH funding. It operates multiple clinical sites in the greater Atlanta area, including the Emory Proton Therapy Center, and has an NCI-designated Radiation Biology Integration Network (ROBIN) Center award. The Emory Graduate Division of Biological and Biomedical Sciences, which operates eight interdisciplinary PhD programs, provides access to predoctoral trainees, and an NCI T32 Training Program in Cancer Biology provides mentored training and financial support for postdoctoral trainees.
Candidates should hold a PhD degree. Selection criteria include a track record of scientific productivity appropriate to current rank/position, as evidenced by primary research publications, current and proposed extramural funding, synergy with current research in the Division/Department and at Emory, as well as future research vision and potential to contribute to graduate, postdoctoral, and resident training. A competitive year-round salary and start-up package will be provided.
