Lectureship appointments are part-time and made on a quarter by quarter basis as dictated by instructional needs and budget constraints of the Department. Quarter academic appointment dates and courses are as follows: Fall: September 19-December 9, 2022: Winter: January 4-March 24, 2023: Spring: March 29-June 16, 2023: Salary commensurate with applicant qualifications and experience; percentage of appointment commensurate with teaching load. Duties: Teach undergraduate course(s) in the microbiology field during the 2022-2023 academic year. Course(s) may include the following, and lecturer may also be assigned additional courses according to the instructional needs in the department and in conformity with departmental lecturer workload policies. • 5-unit course-based undergraduate research experience (CURE) in microbiology or virology courses (MIMG103BL).. 3-unit fundamental microbiology laboratory course for pre-professional students focusing on experimental techniques of microbiology, with emphasis on cultivation and characterization of bacteria Microbiology Laboratory for Professional Schools (MIMG100L). Laboratory exercises include light microscopy, quantitative techniques, and identification methods. For the laboratory courses: work with instructional laboratory staff to acquire, prepare, and distribute supplies for experiments, organize instructional materials for course, prepare and present lectures related to the experiments, write and grade exams and/or grade student assignments, supervise student work in the laboratory setting, facilitate computer-assisted learning activities in class, regularly meet with and oversee teaching assistants (TAs), and maintain office hours. For non-laboratory courses: organize instructional materials for course, prepare and present lectures, write and grade exams, coordinate activities for discussion sections, regularly meet with and oversee TAs, and maintain office hours. Qualifications: Ph.D. degree in the biological sciences is required, and knowledge of microbiology is preferred. Also preferred is a demonstrated familiarity with evidence-based teaching practices for undergraduates at the university level and experience with laboratory instruction in the biological sciences.
