The School of Basic & Biomedical Sciences in the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine is seeking to recruit a Lecturer in Protein/Macromolecular Engineering, based in the Randall Centre for Cell & Molecular Biophysics. This role is part of a major cross-faculty investment in science focused on boundary-breaking research, education and innovation. About the role: This is an exciting opportunity for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in RNA Structural Biology and Cryo-Electron Microscopy to lead a dynamic and forward-looking programme in structural and RNA biology based in the Randall Centre for Cell and Molecular Biophysics at King’s College London. The post holder will deliver high-impact, interdisciplinary research in RNA structural biology and Cryo-Electron Microscopy, enabling the investigation of fundamental molecular properties and address real-world challenges — from developing new medicines to advancing diagnostics and industrial applications. Embedded in the vibrant, highly collaborative environment of the Randall Centre within the School of Basic and Medical Biosciences, the post holder will contribute to the Department’s interdisciplinary mission, establishing an independent and externally funded research programme that synergises with and elevates our existing experimental capabilities. Through high-level innovative experimental approaches, the postholder will contribute to our investigation of fundamental molecular mechanisms and address critical real-world challenges. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, RNA structure, function and interactions, RNA regulation and metabolism, disease mechanisms, genetics, virology, cancer, cardiovascular biology, therapeutics development and clinical medicine. This position offers: (i) A collaborative structural biology and biophysics environment with strong technical support and shared expertise within the Randall Centre; (ii) Access to state-of-the-art protein and macromolecular characterisation facilities, as well as King’s core research infrastructure that includes a CryoEM facility; (iii) Excellent opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration across King’s and with London partners; (iv) Support to develop an independent research programme and contribute to high-quality teaching and mentorship. The post holder is expected to build bridges across Departments and Schools within the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine and beyond, fostering new collaborations.
