Phd Fellow In Experimental Biophysics

Department of biocomplexity/biophysics, Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen is offering a PhD scholarship in experimental biophysics commencing 1 September 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Description of the scientific environment

The experimental biophysics group at the Niels Bohr Institute constitutes several postdocs and phd students and a number of master students who carry out research in diverse areas of biophysics. The main focus is physics of the cell surface incuding membrane biophysics and biomechanics of the cell surface. More information about the group can be found on this link:

Project description

The aim of the project is to investigate various aspects of membrane repair in cells. The goal is to identify the key players in membrane repair and in particular the mechanism behind successful repair in cells. Optical techniques will be used both to induce nanoscopic holes in membranes and to shape and manipulate membranes to investigate the affinity of proteins for certain membranes shapes. The ideal candidate should have experience in thermoplasmonics, confocal imaging, optical trapping, cell culturing and Matlab based data treatment. Writing scientific articles and disseminating research at conferences/workshops requires the candidate to have excellent English skills.
