PhD Position in Biology

Experimental medical doctoral thesis 2023/2024

Extracellular vesicles as biomarkers in liquid biopsy

Our working group "Extracellular Vesicles: Research and Translation" is interested in the function of extracellular vesicles (EV) and their potential use as a tool for non-invasive diagnostic procedures in various diseases.
Extracellular vesicles (EVs) act as transport vehicles for signaling proteins, RNA and DNA between cells. They play a crucial role in various physiological and pathological processes such as the regulation of the immune response, blood coagulation and tumor formation.
As part of a medical doctoral thesis, it is planned to use EVs from blood plasma or other body fluids. The aim is both to detect known disease-associated biomarkers and to identify potential new biomarkers that can be used for diagnosis and therapy monitoring. This work is carried out in close collaboration with our clinical partners. Participation in the development of novel methods for EV detection as part of international projects is possible.
Qualifications: A degree from a medical faculty, knowledge of English. Practical experience in the field of cell biology and/or molecular biology is an advantage.
We expect our applicants to be highly committed, interested in research, independent and able to work in a team. We offer qualified support, the opportunity to work in an exciting research field within a young and dynamic team, as well as collaborations with partners in Freiburg and at national and international levels. There is also the possibility of completing a master's thesis as part of this project.
