DUTIES

Thompson Rivers University, Open Learning (TRU-OL) is looking for a qualified content expert/curriculum developer to complete a major revision of BIOL 4001- Biostatistics:

This course explores the nature of data and the challenges involved in collecting and handling it, this includes planning the collection of data necessary to examine a particular problem, manipulation of data, summarizing and describing a data set. It also covers the statistical approach for testing hypotheses, and performing data analysis using current statistical tools as a tool for description and hypotheses testing. Students will also interpret and evaluate statistical analyses used by others, design experiments, and analyze and interpret the results of experiments or observational studies.

Course Development Process:

The content expert/curriculum developer will work under the guidance of an instructional designer, and in collaboration with the course development team, to provide the following:

Review existing course materials and develop a detailed blueprint or course framework that includes relevant learning outcomes and mapping of course activities, assessments and updated resources.

Revision and/or development of content, learning activities and authentic assessments to ensure that they are relevant and appropriate for an online paced course.

TRU-OL uses a collaborative approach to course development that involves interactive planning meetings and review sessions as needed.

The content expert/curriculum developer is expected to make effective use of any prescribed resources identified (ideally electronic resources, including TRU’s e-Library collection and article databases), and other materials and media as appropriate. TRU respects intellectual property laws and expects curriculum developers to accurately cite sources and identify material that may require copyright clearance.

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will be selected on the basis of the following criteria:

  • PhD in Biology, Statistics, or related discipline.
  • Extensive experience working in R.
  • Significant relevant work experience.
  • Demonstration of current and ongoing engagement in the course subject matter through research and/or the scholarship of teaching, including the dissemination of outcomes in appropriate academic venues.
  • Proven course development skills in a face-to-face or distance environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to write in a clear and consistent style with grammatical accuracy.
  • The ability to meet deadlines.
  • The ability to work in a collaborative and consultative manner.
  • Experience or education in online course development or online facilitation is an asset.
