The Department of Plant Cell Biology at the Albrecht-von-Haller-Institute for Plant Sciences in Göttingen offers positions for

3 Ph.D. candidates (all genders welcome)
in plant-microbe interaction research


The positions should be filled by the beginning of 2021 and are offered for a period of three years according to the German public service pay grade 13 TV-L (50 %).

The research of our team aims at understanding the molecular plant defense mechanisms and pathogen virulence strategies that are operational in different cellular and extracellular compartments, using Arabidopsis-powdery mildew and Arabidopsis-Verticillium interactions as model systems. The PhD projects will employ biochemical, cell biological, genetic and molecular approaches to investigate the detailed functions of an Arabidopsis immune receptor, a mitochondria-associated defense protein and a Verticillium effector protein, respectively. We offer a state-of-the-art experimental infrastructure in an innovative and stimulating research environment with active collaborations and exchange with national and international partners.

Your Profile

- highly qualified M.Sc. degree (or equivalent) and expertise in Plant/Microbe Molecular Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Plant-Microbe Interactions and Confocal Microscopy
- highly motivated and enthusiastic about the research area
- excellent skills in spoken and written German and English
